No better sleeper for your project

Outback Sleepers provides a consistent, repeatable retaining wall system for residential, commercial, and subdivision projects. With 60 MPa strength concrete sleepers, detailed product engineering documentation, and a broad range of supporting products, we help specifiers design a retaining wall with greater confidence throughout the process.

Experienced Specifiers know there’s no better sleeper than an Outback Sleeper. Trusted by builders for their strength, consistency and reliability, Outback has the production scale to deliver, whether you’re designing a home or developing a subdivision.

The Outback Advantage

For specifiers, the right retaining wall product needs to do more than perform on paper. It must also be readily available, clearly documented, easy to coordinate, and suitable for use across multiple projects. Outback Sleepers combines engineering-backed sleepers, practical technical resources, and product support to help reduce uncertainty from concept through to construction.

Engineered for long-term durability

Our sleepers are manufactured using 60 MPa strength concrete and engineered to comply with Australian Standard AS 3600, helping to deliver long-term strength and performance in real Australian conditions.

Practical technical resources

Our downloads library includes brochures, product engineering documents, installation guidance, product size and weight summaries, QA resources, test reports, and safety material in one place.

Design versatility

With over 60 SKUs spread across 6 sleeper styles, Outback offers specifiers greater design versatility than other sleeper manufacturers.

Work with a project team that will support you from documentation to delivery

For projects that require more than product selection, Outback can support specifiers and project teams with practical input across product-related documentation, quotation, and delivery planning.

Whether the requirement relates to a residential wall or a more complex retaining wall system for a larger development, our team can assist with product selection and project coordination.

Our manufacturing site in Lonsdale, South Australia, has extensive production capabilities, enabling us to deliver large volumes of sleepers with a quick turnaround from order date to delivery.

Common Specifier Questions

Our sleepers come in 2m and 2.4m lengths, 200mm high, and are available in a range of thicknesses to accommodate different wall heights.

We also manufacture 2m and 2.4m Cribs (100mm high) for each of our sleeper designs.

Please review the information on each of our product pages or contact us for more details.

You can build retaining walls up to 4m high using our engineered sleepers (subject to council approval and engineering).

No – UFPs are not engineered and designed to retain heavy compaction.

A light backfill (i.e., garden soil or bark) is acceptable. However, if paving and concrete are against the UFP, then sleepers should be used instead. UFPs primary function is to fill the gap beneath a fence, prolong the life of the fence panel by preventing rust, and provide additional privacy.

Steel lengths and sizes are to be confirmed by the site engineer, who will provide site-specific advice.

Structures over 1m in height will require council approval and site-specific engineering.

It is recommended that walls 600mm high or less be set a minimum of 600mm into the ground.
